Philip Stoddard Artist Juilliard Actor And Director

By Paul Stevens

In the world of theater arts, individuals come together and work as a group to make things happen. In fact, when it comes to philip stoddard artist juilliard actor and the Juilliard Theater Division and Drama Department, making things happen is often an understatement. For, throughout this 50th anniversary season, actors, including Stoddard, writers, directors, teachers, patrons, families, friends and staff will be on hand to create, produce and provide outstanding performances.

The goal of the Juilliard theater department, to promote positive change not only at Juilliard but throughout the world. As such, most drama students have found it easier to create the change one wants to see rather than living through change at the hands of others. Whereas, change can also benefit corporations, small businesses and institutions, educational and otherwise.

Change is often considered a necessity in theater arts, especially when part of a higher learning experience. For, it is important to hold on to the practices and principles whom have made those involved who they are today. Whereas, it is also important to stay dedicated to the art form and continue to relay what it is like to be a human being during different events and times of life. For, most thespians believe it is impossible to be dedicated to any aspect of life if one is not in some fashion relaying that dedication to others.

While this is the case, there are still a number of untold stories and unheard voices whom have yet to grace the Juilliard stage. While some will still be on earth for the 100th anniversary, others will have passed on. Regardless, those present today will be a part of those whom come together in the future. For, the legacy of those whom have attended and performed at Juilliard will live on forever in the memories of those in attendance and the history of the school.

One actor whom has shared talents with the professors and fellow students at Juilliard is that of Philip Stoddard, an upcoming artist, actor, director and vocalist. In fact, Stoddard will be playing a number of roles in productions during the coming season, which will be the final year for Philip at the school.

One independent project which has won the attention well beyond the grounds of Juilliard is that of OperaCamp. For, Philip created and operates a lab where students can gather to create new and interesting operas. In the first year, there were six operas created and performed throughout the school year. In the second year, directors and students are hopeful to surpass six in hopes of creating seven or eight operas, all of which will be original and unique.

When asked what Stoddard's favorite theater and opera credits to date were, the answers were minimal compared to the number of productions with which the student has been associated. Nonetheless, the answers included productions such as Father Comes Home From The Wars, one of the actor's most recent works in which Philip played a colonel, title roles of King Lear and Woyzeck, Mozart's Don Giovanni and Tommy Albright in Brigadoon At The Chautaugua Institution.

While theater arts is at the forefront of Stoddard's career choice, hobbies and interests, the young man also enjoys yoga, organic farming, volunteering, teaching, cooking and traveling. In addition, becoming involved with various charities and organizations keep Stoddard busy when not acting or singing in a major theater production. As such, Philip is looking forward to graduating while remaining active in theater arts by acting, directing and singing for years to come.
