Poetry & 3 Writing Tips From Island Christian Church

By David Kellan

Poetry is, without question, one of the best ways to convey oneself. Even though this can be said for other methods of writing, there's something about poems that comes across as expressive, not to mention artistic in various senses. However, not everyone will have a strong understanding of what Christian poems should contain. Island Christian Church can help, as these 3 of the best ways to write better poems for the illustration of faith.

The first step to becoming a better Christian poet is to read and review the works of others. While I'm sure that reading may already be an interest of yours, it's important to look at the works of your favorite poets, drawing your attention to terms they frequently utilize as well. Your favorites may include the likes of A. E. Housman, Walt Whitman and Robert Frost, each one with different works under their belt. When you take note of the terms they most frequently use, your mental thesaurus will expand.

It's also important to make note of relevant poetry terms, and how they can be intertwined into your own Christian poems. Alliteration, for example, is used in order to repeat consonants. What this results in is a strong style of repetition, which only helps to create an easier sense of language. Christian poetry is still poetry, at the end of the day, so it's important for writers to recognize the terms in question and how they can be utilized in future works.

Finally, make it a point to explore your boundaries. Poetry is not exactly a limited form of writing, which is especially true when the beliefs of Island Christian Church are brought into the mix. You may write a poem detailing a particular story in the Bible, which is common. You may even write a poem from the perspective of a well-known Christian figure from the Bible itself. Whatever the case may be, it's never a bad thing to explore. If anything, it'll help you become more comfortable, as a poet.

There's no denying the appeal that comes with poetry, as a while. Even though some styles may stand out more than others, there's no doubt that there's a creative element not to be overlooked. This particular element is not lost with Christian poetry, either; if anything, this idea of faith will only help the creative nature of poetry stand out that much more. In order to present the best Christian poetry imaginable, it's easy to see why these 3 methods matter.
