How To Choose Meaningful Abstract Paintings For Your Home

By Karen Russell

Art has remained important because it is one way to chronicle the lives of people living throughout history. While science and its facets are very important to our survival, art has remained to be the reason why we survive. It gives life meaning and without this meaning, there really is no point of surviving.

Famous painting and the artistic movement started getting famous in Europe and started to be carried out in America. While realism and symbolism are very anatomy based artistic movements, abstract painting started to catch on. One interesting thing about LA abstract paintings is how they just keep evolving throughout time.

This is not to go into technicalities but there are so many factors one can consider. First off, is whether or not it means something to you. That should be the highest factor to consider when buying a painting. Whether it is simply something that you found from Bath and Beyond or something you have scoured the county for.

The thing with abstraction is that there is no concrete life form visual and accurate representation that immediately makes the subject recognizable, if even there is a subject at all. Abstract in its essence is a matter of composition consisting of well placed shapes and colors. While this may be true it does not stop it from holding so much meaning and life.

One of the best abstract artist that humankind has produced is Pablo Picasso with his shapes and composition genius. Sure these are just mere shapes that those with the audacity claims that can be done by elementary students. That can be one of the most insulting things you can say about art, honestly. A famous painting from the man is called Guernica.

Look for art that says things about your personality. Not the boring kind that looks just like a slab of white canvas painted on white canvas. The value is not entirely on how much the piece costs, but with that it makes you feel and how it was made.

As a buyer choose something with a good story, apart from what strikes a cord in your head or heart. Buy the weird and unusual ones if it seems fit for your personality and go all out. Be careful with what you buy though, while there are installations and paintings that can cost a lot, they can still be made by people who are merely doing it for the shock factor.

This is what separates the artist from the artisan. Know that there is a significant difference to both and it could be a thin one that. What an artist essentially makes is a form of expression, while an artisan is someone who is driven by the craft, and not necessarily expression. While both may be driven by passion, the results are necessarily different.

Let us face it, it makes you question if there really is still some cultural significance to what is being displayed. This is not to say that all abstracts are random and just drips of paint and a composition of shapes. You can check out a Pollock piece and realize that the intricacies of its fractals and patterns create a mathematical pattern. Then again looking at art technically is a matter of study. It takes experience and genuine interest to actually see what is good and what is pretentious.
