Improve Confidence And Self Esteem With Lace Wigs

By Shawn Hunter

Chemotherapy treatments are a harsh and potentially dangerous form of medical care, and one of the many terrible side-effects is the complete loss of hair. This being so, it is not the only reason a man or a woman might feel the need to wear a hair piece. Lace wigs are used as an adornment for a variety of reasons.

Preferably they will seek one that is made of human hair, but there are also varieties made with synthetic or even animal hair such as a horse mane. Strands of hair are laboriously hand tied to the sock, which is made of a very fine and lacey material. In the past both men and women who wore a wig wanted their piece to appear fake, but in our modern era consumers prefer that it look as much like real hair as possible.

The piece which goes over the hair is the lacey part, and this came to be the most common type worn thanks to the appearance of a machine which could fabricate this downey material. It can be flesh-colored, or colored to the natural hair color of the wearer. This helps to conceal the hair or scalp beneath, allowing for a more natural appearance which most desire.

In days gone by members of the gentry would be seen with a hairpiece as a way to show their standing in the upper classes of society. As being part of the upper crust became less important, such lifestyle advertisements were not as desired. These pieces are worn for more than covering baldness or maintaining a confident edge in society.

Men who are cross-dressers often wear fancy, long hair styles when they go perform in drag shows, or just wish to be seen and acknowledged as a woman in society. For women, hair is a defining characteristic of their femininity. Females who lose their hair due to illness or age are often faced with a serious self-image crisis, and wearing a wig can help them feel confident of their appearance in public.

Then there is the general fact that women find themselves treated differently depending on their hair color. Sometimes women will wear wigs in a different shade than their own just to see if people are different towards them when they sport a completely different look. Then there are those days that they just want their hair to be longer, thicker, or straight/curly.

In order to create a more natural appearance, it is recommended that the wearer comb out the wispy, fine hair at the brow, over the ears, and along the back neckline. This creates the illusion that the natural hair grows seamlessly. Of course, this is only recommended if the wig being worn is the same basic color as the natural hair.

Women who wear wigs in a different color than their own are often recommended to do so by their hairdressers before they get their hair color changed permanently. It is always a good idea to wear the color temporarily before making the change permanent. A new color must match their clothes and lifestyle.
