When a person has a dream of becoming a musician, too often the dream goes unfulfilled. However, this is not the case for Gigi Love who is currently participating in a National Parks centennial songs project. The artist plans to write a song related to the iconic community and scenery of each park.
The plans to host a performance while in a park shows the singer's commitment passion for music and nature. Yosemite Gold, is a song which reflects both of these traits. For, it the song was written and performed while visiting Yosemite National Park long before the project began.
Upon buying a mandolin from a fellow park visitor last Summer, Ms. Love found a quiet meadow in which the singer sat down and began writing songs. While writing, Gigi decided to start planning the current park project. After which, the singer returned home and released a mini-recording of three songs related to the project.
In large part, this new album is being released to commemorate the 100th anniversary. The artist's hopes are to create a new song for each park visited. Once Ms. Love returns home, records and releases this new album, it will be available at stores and online. To learn more about Ms. Love and previous recordings, check out audio and video cuts on the artist's Facebook page, website and videos on sites such as YouTube.
The artist loves to commune with nature, learn about history, especially as related to the National parks, and meet with community members. Often, those camping and hiking in the parks become part of a community during each visit. When it comes to songwriting, Gigi tries to write stories within the lyrics which are often unique in style and tone.
While a three song EP has been recorded and released, it is only a small taste of what is yet to come. Once the full length compact disc is out in December 2016, there is no doubt the world will know more about Ms. Love as well as the different parks. For, while each are part of the National park system, each location has an individual icon beauty, and story to tell.
One of the biggest performances of the young artist's life was to open for the Dave Matthews Band at the Columbia River Gorge. In addition, Gigi performed at the closing ceremony of the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Ms. Love has also been a featured, and open-mic performer and at a number of different venues. Whether playing at a coffee house, club or special event, the singer often draws a large crowd.
For, if citizens and tourists do not visit these areas, chances are many may be lost to commercial operations. For, there are companies already attempting to mine in Grand Canyon and other national parks. At the same time, there are many environmental and social justice groups which are working to stop this attack on the National Park system. Otherwise, not only will Gigi lose performance space, families will lose some of the best vacation spots in the world.
